Free fingerless mitts pattern - another great reason to knit this spring

As the winter turns mightily to spring, an early one at that, hand warmers make great sense instead of gloves. This free pattern for fingerless mitts from Purl Soho will knit up nicely in one weekend. Knitting is done on US 2 (2.25mm) needles in the round, and there is a beautiful pictorial to teach you how to knit the fisherman's rib mitts on dpn's. If size 2 needles don't tickle your fancy, these free patterns on larger needles might do the trick.

Fisherman's rib hand warmers pattern link is here. There is a free cowl pattern in the same 2 by 2 rib "almost as easy as K2, P2," which creates a squishy fabric in return. It's called the Mistake Rib Cowl.

Purl Soho sells beautiful yarn and both the Fisherman's Rib mitts and the cowl pattern require two skeins each. The gauge is for sport yarn, 6 stitches = one inch.
