New pattern for Kate's shawl is a beauty

A newer version of Princess Kate's ruffle shawl is roaming free on Ravelry and it is a beauty. Knit and designed by Vera Sanon, who also writes an interesting story of her knitting experience. Vera immigrated to the United States after the devastating earthquake in Haiti. German by birth, she learned to knit at age six from a master teacher, her great grandmother, then moved to England as a teenager where she absorbed British knitting. Now living in Los Angeles and designing for Cascade Yarns, Vera has recently posted Princess Ruffles Shawl. She has many beautiful knitting designs, this delightful new shawl is a free pattern. Read on...

Knitnscribble loves the drape of this shawl.  It's designed to stay on your shoulders in a horseshoe shape.

Princess Ruffles Shawl is knit with fingering 4 ply yarn, 900 yds, on a US 6 (4.25 mm). The cast on is done at the neck and the body of the shawl is done in stockinette stitch.

Vera explains that 1/2 the yarn yardage is used in the stockinette and 1/2 in the lace ruffle, so if you are running short on yarn, Vera suggests, "Should you run short of yarn, eliminate Row 25 & 26 at the bottom of the lace pattern and work 2 less garter stitch rows at the bottom of the shawl." The written pattern is available in German and English.
