The designer writes that "Mountain Drive" is a sturdy sock with reinforced heel for comfort and warmth. The sock pattern features cables on either side and "antler" cables that run down the front and back. Pattern instructions are presented in both written and charted formats, and shouldn't be a problem for even a beginning sock knitter. Translation: it looks harder than it is.

As knitnscribble readers know, I've always been a fan of socks knit on larger needles. You will find several free sock patterns to choose from including "So Simple Silk Garden" here on this knitting blog.

And don't forget to add a little polyester thread to really extend the longevity of the heel, especially when wearing heavier socks with boots and clogs.
