An easy free sock pattern on larger needles

Socks are a great summertime knitting project, small and quite portable, a sock pattern will keep you knitting at the beach, on a road trip, watching a movie, or commuting on a plane, train, or bus. If you are a beginner sock knitter, a perfect easy adult sock knitting pattern in small, medium, and large sizes for larger needles and DK yarn is the So Simple Silk Garden Sport by Glenna C. free sock pattern.

The pattern is a quick knit up,
easy to remember,
no constant pattern-minding,
with ample definition
and a small four-stitch cable
that runs up one side of each foot.

Knitnscribble likes knitting socks in bright colors and thank goodness her hubby grew up wearing alpaca golf sweaters with bright color-coordinated socks and still enjoys warm colored socks. Knitting with bright colors, especially socks, makes her happy.

Recently purchased GrittyKnits 'daffodil' superwash sock yarn in a DK weight is the yarn of choice for this free sock pattern. Having never knitted socks on anything but US2 (2.75 mm) needles, knitting on US4 (3.5 mm) dpns is a breeze.

The So Simple Silk Garden Sport sock pattern calls for separating the cast on stitches for the cuff down onto three needles. Because knitnscribble prefers to knit on four needles from the cuff down, you'll find the photos here with four instead of three.

She also decided to cast on an even number of stitches, so the 12 rows of k1, p1 cuff would have an even number of knit and purl stitches, decreasing the extra stitch in the last row of the ribbing before starting the pattern.
Can't tell you how easy this pattern is, there's really no need to look at the pattern again after the first few rows. Just knit the knit stitches and purl the purls. Every seven rows, you'll do a four-stitch cable. Socks in a jiffy.

You'll find the So Simple free sock pattern on Ravelry as a pdf download you can print out.

Another easy free sock pattern for US2 needles knitnscribble used all last summer is the Simple Skyp sock pattern by Adrienne Ku. Knitting socks is fun and can become addictive after the first beginner pair. Happy knitting and Happy 4th of July weekend!
