Lots of free hat patterns links in this post: Newsboy hat pattern, Sesame Street, heart hat, Pokemon, sock monkey, NY Giants, fish hat, Harry Potter hats, Hermione and the gang - all to knit and crochet. But here's a great way to design your own hat pattern, too.

Knitnscribble came across the coolest calculator today. Now I know you don't read this knitting and crochet blog because you like math, but a certain mathematics ability is necessary to knit and do crafts, especially if you are designing your own patterns, like hats. This is an easy way to begin your very own design! The first part of the hat calculator is below. More free hat patterns with photos follow.

Find the gauge of your yarn down the left hand column and the size hat you want to make in inches across the first row: 14, 16, 18, 20, and so on. Then cast on the number of stitches which match your yarn gauge, using the suggested needle size on the yarn wrapper or label.

This simple instruction is for a rolled brim, but get creative and knit one, purl one for ribbing at the beginning. Read the "note" to the right.

This handy instruction and the continuing decreases for the top and finish are provided by earthguild.com Please visit.
